fourth travel report September 2016

10 september 2016 - Sanur, Indonesië

We spent a few nice days in Ubud, which is getting busier and busier all the time. This time we found a small, quite new hotel, outside the busy center. And if you take a scooter, within no time you are amidst beautiful ricefields.

The foundation is supporting a few children here, among which Emmawati, a girl Hetty met when she was in Ubud for the first time, in 2009. On Tuesday we left Ubud and went to Candidasa, which is close to Padangbai, where a relatively small group of 12 children is supported through the Foundation. We had agreed to meet them and their parents on Wednesday on White Sand beach. Our indispensable contact person here is Iluh, a long time friend of Tjeerd, whose two boys are also sponsored. The youngest Kadek, greeted Tjeerd warmly when he saw him: opa!! As always, it was a joyful gathering on the beach. We took in the forms of each child, made a photo and handed over the money. The next day we visited the post office, to send the letters with yearly updates of the children to all the sponsors. Just in time, because the guy from the post office, who is by now quite familiar with us, was just about to leave for - of course - a ceremony. It was quite a job, with more than 160 letters to send, but we got some help from Iluh and the post office guy. The next day we left for Sanur again, for a couple of nights. Here we had the last photos developed, and the last letters put in the mail. Hopefully they will reach the sponsors in due time, but no doubt after we have returned home. Still,, it is alway nice  to receive real mail from Bali, instead  from the Netherlands!

Salaam dari Sanur, Hetty & Tjeerd
