Second travel report, august 2016

26 augustus 2016 - Lovina, Indonesië

After my visit to Pancasari, I used the weekend to sort out all the data (photos, forms) of the children. Monday the 22nd I visited another two schools, together with Komang. First SD2 in Kalibukbuk. The schools know we are coming, and how to prepare for the visit, such as inviting the parents to come to the school. Usually all works out fine, but this would not be Bali if not all goes according to plan. And this was the case with SD2. At the appointed time parents of only 3 out of the 11 children sponsored, were present. After having waited half an hour, I told the head of the school I would only hand over the money for the children whose parents were present. I did not really intend that of course, but she took it seriously, and made some quick phone calls. Ten minutes later, the missing parents arrived. I always hand over the money to the head of school or one of the teachers, in the presence of parents and children, so there can be no misunderstanding about this later on.
Next we visited SD4 in Kalibukbuk. Since we only sponsor 3 children there at the moment, we could take three more into the Foundation, two girls and a boy.  For the girls we already have sponsors: welcome Thomas and Fenneke Groenbroek and Gertie Pinxteren. Great that you are helping them. For the boy, we still seek a sponsor, but I have no doubt we will find one soon. Happy faces here as well, so that we could go back to the hotel with a satisfied feeling. A nice swim and rest, because it is really hot here.

On Tuesday we went to SD1 Kalibukbuk and SD1 Anturan. At the latter I heard that one girl we sponsor was no longer there, because the family had moved. After having consulted her sponsor, we decided to take in another girl at this school, who can really use the support. All in all another productive day. Now I am busy putting all the photos and information that I have of the children in the right envelopes, and send them to the sponsors. I will do this from Padanbay, since strangely enough it is cheaper there. You would think prices for sending mail to Europe would be the same everywhere on Bali, but that is not the case.

Wednesday and Thursday two more schools to visit, and on Saturday all junior and senior students will come to Komang's place.
For now,
Salaam, Tjeerd
