First travel report from Bali 2016

21 augustus 2016 - Pancasari, Indonesië

On August 17 I left again for Bali, for the yearly visit to our sponsor children. This time I chose to fly with Qatar Airways. First stop in Doha after a 6 hours flight, and with a brief layover of 45 minutes (running to the next gate) another 10 hours to Denpasar. A long, long trip, with only a few hours sleep. I soon discovered my name on the display of one of the many taxi drivers awaiting passengers. My driver was there! First to Ubud, where I spent one night. At 6.30h the next morning, I took another taxi to Pancasari. The first school to visit was SD3, where we sponsor 20 children. My new ''assistant'' in Pancasari is a local woman, called Gita. She is married to an Australian man, and they live in Pancasari. It is always great to meet the children and their parents again. I took pictures of each child with her/his parent(s), and will send them soon to their sponsor, as I do every year. The children receive the same photo; often the only picture they have of themselves. Last but not least, I gave the money to the head of the school. Next school to visit was SD1, where we sponsor 31 children. Same procedure here, and same happy faces. One special happy face was of a girl called Putu, who is sponsored by the fam. van Kreuningen. They had given me a present and a letter for Putu. She was very pleased with the present, and Gita could translate the letter for her. The last visit was to the secondary school SMP, where we met the junior students (12-15 year), and also the senior students (15-18 year), who are at the SMA.
On behalf of the children, I would like to thank all their sponsors, who have helped them with their education.
Everything went well today, and the next report will be about the visit to the schools in Kalibukbuk and Anturan,  next week Monday.
Salaam! Tjeerd
